Billy Graham says "that the former president (Clinton) should become an evangelist and allow 'his wife to run the country.'" -Story from the AP.

I think maybe this was taken out of context... Surely what he meant was "Bill is slicker than a TV preacher" and "Hillary might as well run the place, she's already done it once."

But I wasn't there...

I like your interpretation! I can see Bill saying "trust me...send in that $1000 pledge and your first born intern." All he needs is the pentecostal pompadour and some gawdy gold rings.

actually i saw in the kansas city star that graham is going more liberal in his old age. but instead of liberal, id say hes actually becoming a bridge builder instead of a right wing nut like so much of the "religious right" has become. he sees things not as black and white, but as issues that have compelling sides and needs to be walked through.

A valid point, anon, but I think you have to look a the world as having some absolutes. This is especially true when you start getting in the word of God. There is a moral absolute, but you don't have to approach it with what I call a "30 pound Bible on a stick". Jesus loves us all, and sometimes the brow beating gets to be too much. As for Graham, he seems very careful to not get into the political realm. This is a departure from the norm with him. I do not recall seeing any comment from in him in the 2000 or the 2004 election.

well back in the heyday of graham in the 70s, he got real close to richard nixon and was taped saying derrogatory comments about jews. before that he was close to the presidents. after that, though, especially since it was nixon, he has distanced himself from presidents, for understandable reasons.

also the move is politcal for the clintons as they attempt to go back into the white house in '08 and need the religious vote if that is to happen.

this is clay by the way, and i ryhmed, but it was really gay.
